Signs a Senior Needs Help at Home

Signs a Senior Needs Help at Home
When it comes to determining if mom or dad needs help at home, some senior warning signs are easy to spot. For example, if your loved one is hospitalized after a fall in the bathroom, the time has come for professional support.

Unfortunately, not all senior warning signs are obvious. Here are a few that may not seem like a big deal, but they could mean your loved one needs help at home.

A cluttered, dirty, and/or disorganized house
The state of your parent’s house can sometimes be a good indication that they could use a little extra support. Overflowing garbage cans, dirty dishes in the kitchen, and piles of dirty clothes in the bedroom could mean that your loved one will start to experience difficulties in other areas of their life, if they haven’t already.

Loss of interest in activities and hobbies
Another one of the senior warning signs that is often overlooked is the loss of interest in activities and hobbies. It isn’t uncommon for seniors to become depressed and spend more time at home when once, they enjoyed interacting with others. It can lead to a variety of medical problems, so catching it early and providing your loved one with the right support is important.

Cuts and bruises
It isn’t uncommon to get a cut or a bruise at any age, but if those cuts and bruises are more frequent than they used to be, or if your loved one can’t fully explain how they were injured, it should be treated as one of the senior warning signs that shouldn’t be ignored. Even if mom or dad tells you it’s nothing to be worried about, you should talk about getting them a little extra help at home.
