Early on, we implemented daily assessments for our team of caregivers as well as administrative staff. These assessments include temp taking, listening to heart and lung function, and asking a series of symptom-related questions in an effort to prevent any potentially exposed or symptomatic staff members from being around our clients.
In short, of course it has. Prior to this year we educated staff on infection control, hand hygiene, proper use of protective equipment, and many other aspects of caregiving that focus on keeping both client and caregiver safe. We had not, however, used face masks prior to this year. With any airborne virus, we need to protect ourselves from both spreading and contracting the disease by covering our nose and mouth with a face mask. This has become standard practice for frontline essential health workers across the nation during this pandemic.
We rely heavily on the ongoing updates from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): https://www.cdc.gov/
Any new official discoveries on the virus, or its treatment, will be uploaded to the CDC website.
Locally, we also utilize the Iowa-focused website: https://coronavirus.iowa.gov/
This is used for focused-tracking the spread within counties we serve, as well as counties statewide.
